Fertilization is one of the main practices that leads to increased coffee productivity in Colombia. This activity is carried out through the supply of fertilizers to the soil, as this is the medium where the roots grow and, consequently, they absorb the nutrients in the short, medium and long term. Apart from the root, other organs such as the leaves are able to absorb nutrients, which is why its application to the foliage can be considered in some cases a complement to soil nutrition. For the conditions of the coffee zone of the country, concerns about the effect that foliar nutrition has on coffee growth, production, and bean quality have been permanent. In this seminar, some basic aspects about the application of foliar fertilizers are presented and the results of experiences related to that process in the Colombian coffee zone are discussed.
